DRAINING




CAUTION
Disconnect the battery before beginning the draining operation.

If the vehicle is not equipped with a drain plug, use the following procedure to remove the gasoline.

  1. Using a 10 foot piece of 3 /8 in. hose cut a flap slip 18 in. from one end.
  2.

  1. Install a pipe nipple of slightly larger diameter than the hose, into the opposite end of the hose.
  2.  
  3. Install the nipple end of the hose into the fuel tank with the natural curve of the hose pointing downward. Keep feeding the hose in until the nipple hits the bottom of the tank.
  4.  
  5. Place the other end of the hose in a suitable container and insert an air hose pointing it in the downward direction of the slit and inject air into the line.
  6.  

If the vehicle is to be stored, always drain the gasoline from the complete fuel system including the carburetor, fuel pump, fuel lines, and tank.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Cab-Mounted Tanks
  1. Remove the seat back hold-down bolts and tilt the seat back forward.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, remove the tank cover.
  4.  
  5. Drain the tank.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the fuel line, meter wire, and ground wire.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lug wrench and lug wrench mount.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts and fasteners securing the tank in place.
  12.  
  13. Remove the tank from the cab, and at the same time, disengage the filler neck from the rubber grommet in the cab opening.
  14.  
  15. Remove the meter assembly from the tank.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  18.  

Except Cab-Mounted Tanks
  1. Drain the tank.
  2.  
  3. Jack up your vehicle and support it with jack stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the clamp on the filler neck and the vent tube hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the gauge hose which is attached to the frame.
  8.  
  9. While supporting the tank securely, remove the support straps.
  10.  
  11. Lower the tank until the gauge wiring can be removed.
  12.  
  13. Remove the tank.
  14.  
  15. Install the unit by reversing the removal procedure. Make certain that the anti-squeak material is replaced during installation.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle.
