Extension Housing Rear Seal

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Except NVG 4500 Transmission
  1. Raise and support the truck on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Drain the transmission oil.
  4.  
  5. Matchmark and disconnect the driveshaft.
  6.  
  7. Deform the seal with a punch and pull it from the housing using a suitable seal puller.
  8.  
  9. Coat the outside of the new seal with locking compound and fill the gap between the seal lips with chassis grease. Install the seal using an appropriate seal driver (installer) tool.
  10.  

NVG 4500 Transmission

See Figure 1

  1. Raise and support the truck on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Drain the transmission oil.
  4.  
  5. Matchmark and disconnect the driveshaft.
  6.  
  7. If necessary, remove the parking brake.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the yoke nut and washers, then remove the yoke.
  10.  
  11. Deform the seal with a punch and pull it from the housing using a suitable seal puller.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install a new seal using a suitable seal driver (installer).
  2.  
  3. Install the yoke, washers and nut. Tighten the nut to 325 ft. lbs. (441 Nm).
  4.  
  5. If removed, install the parking brake.
  6.  
  7. Install the driveshaft and fill the transmission with the proper type and amount of fluid.
  8.  
  9. Lower the truck and check for leaks.
