Throttle Valve Cable

Powerglide Transmission
1967-70 INLINE 6-CYLINDER ENGINE
  1. With the accelerator depressed, the bellcrank on the engine must be in the wide open throttle position.
  2.  
  3. The firewall lever must be 1 / 64 - 1 / 16 in. (0.39-1.6mm) off the lever stop and the transmission lever must be against the transmission internal stop.

1971 INLINE 6-CYLINDER ENGINE

  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the throttle return spring.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the lever through the wide open throttle position and the throttle valve lever through the detent.
  6.  
  7. Hold the slot on the rod against the pin on the lever and adjust the swivel on the rod so that it freely enters the hold in the lever.
  8.  
  9. Hold the rod perpendicular to the pin on the lever and tighten the swivel nut. Connect the carburetor return spring.
  10.  
  11. Check the linkage for freedom of operation.
  12.  

V8 ENGINES
  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the accelerator linkage at the carburetor.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the accelerator return spring and throttle valve rod return springs.
  6.  
  7. Pull the throttle valve rod forward until the transmission is through the detent. Open the carburetor to the wide open throttle position. The carburetor must reach the wide open throttle position at the same time that the ball stud contacts the end of the slot in the upper throttle valve rod.

  9. Adjust the swivel on the end of the upper throttle valve rod as per Step 4. The allowable tolerance is approximately 1 / 32 in. (0.79mm).
  10.  
  11. Connect and adjust the accelerator linkage.
  12.  
  13. Check for freedom of operation. Install the air cleaner.
  14.  

Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 Transmission
1969-71 MODELS

  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the detent cable screw.
  4.  
  5. With the choke off and the accelerator linkage adjusted, position the carburetor lever in the wide open position.
  6.  
  7. Pull the detent cable rearward until the wide open throttle stop in the transmission is felt. The cable must be pulled through the detent position to reach the wide open throttle stop.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the detent cable screw and check the linkage for proper operation.
  10.  

1972 MODELS
  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2.  
  3. Pry up on each side of the snaplock with a screwdriver to release the lock.
  4.  
  5. Compress the locking tabs and disconnect the locking tabs from the bracket.
  6.  
  7. Pull the carburetor to the wide open throttle position against the stop on the carburetor.
  8.  
  9. With the carburetor held in this position, pull the cable housing rearward (through the detent) until the wide open throttle stop in the transmission is felt.
  10.  
  11. Push the snaplock on the cable downward until it is flush with the cable.
  12.  
  13. Do not lubricate the cable. Install the air cleaner.
  14.  

1973 AND LATER MODELS

With the snaplock disengaged from the bracket, position the carburetor at the wide open throttle position. Push the snaplock downward until the top is flush with the rest of the cable.
