  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor.
  6.
  7. Measure the resistance of the sensor and compare to the chart.
  8.
  9. Replace the sensor if the resistance does not meet specification.
  10.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

There are two basic styles of front wheel sensor, integral and non-integral. The integral sensor is mounted in the hub bearing assembly, while the non-integral is mounted on the backing plate.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.

CAUTION
Brake pads may contain asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! When cleaning brake surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.

  1. Remove the brake caliper and rotor.
  2.
  3. Remove the sensor wire clips from the frame and the control arm.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  6.
  7. Remove the sensor from the bearing assembly.
  8.

To install:
  1. Install a new O-ring on the sensor. Do not contaminate the lubricant in the sealed bearing.
  2.
  3. Install the sensor into the bearing assembly and torque the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  4.
  5. Connect the sensor wire.
  6.
  7. Install the sensor wire in the clips..
  8.
  9. Install the rotor and caliper.
  10.
  11. Install the front wheel and torque the lug nuts.
  12.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable and check operation.
  14.

NON-INTEGRAL SENSORS

See Figure 8
