REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Without Air Conditioning
ALL MODELS

See Figure 1 through 12

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the coolant overflow bottle.
  4.  
  5. Unplug the motor wiring.
  6.  
  7. Remove the attaching screws and lift out the blower motor.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the motor and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Engage the motor wiring.
  4.  
  5. Install the coolant overflow bottle.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

With Air Conditioning
1987-89 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the power antenna, if so equipped.
  4.  
  5. Remove the coolant overflow bottle.
  6.  
  7. Unplug the motor wiring.
  8.  
  9. Remove the attaching screws and lift out the blower motor.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the motor and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Engage the motor wiring.
  4.  
  5. Install the coolant overflow bottle.
  6.  
  7. Install the power antenna, if so equipped.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

1990-95 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the coolant overflow bottle.
  4.  
  5. Unplug the motor wiring.
  6.  
  7. Remove the attaching screws and lift out the blower motor.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the motor and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Engage the motor wiring.
  4.  
  5. Install the coolant overflow bottle.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.

1996-97 MODELS

  1. Remove the coolant recovery tank.
  2.  
  3. Remove the battery from the van.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the evaporator inlet line and the blower motor insulator retainers.
  6.  
  7. Remove the blower motor insulator.
  8.  
  9. Disengage the electrical connection.
  10.  
  11. Remove the attaching screws and lift out the blower motor.
  12.

To install:
  1. Install the motor and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Engage the motor electrical connection.
  4.  
  5. Install the blower motor cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the insulator cover and evaporator inlet line retainers.
  8.  
  9. Install the battery and coolant recovery tank.
  10.  

Auxiliary Heater and Air Conditioner
1987 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the drain tubes at the rear of the blower-evaporator shroud/duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws securing the shroud to the roof and case.
  6.  
  7. Remove the shroud/duct.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the blower motor ground straps at the center connector between the motors.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the blower motor wires.
  12.  
  13. Support the case and remove the lower-to-upper case half screws and lower the case and motor assemblies.
  14.  
  15. Remove the motor retaining strap and remove the motor and wheels.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Install the motor and wheels.
  2.  
  3. Install the motor retaining strap.
  4.  
  5. Raise the case and Install the lower-to-upper case half screws.
  6.  
  7. Connect the blower motor wires.
  8.  
  9. Connect the blower motor ground straps at the center connector between the motors.
  10.  
  11. Install the shroud/duct.
  12.  
  13. Install the screws securing the shroud to the roof and case.
  14.  
  15. Connect the drain tubes at the rear of the blower-evaporator shroud/duct.
  16.  
  17. Connect the battery ground cable.
  18.

1988-95 MODELS

CAUTION
Please refer to General Information & Maintenance before discharging the compressor or disconnecting air conditioning lines. Damage to the air conditioning system or personal injury could result. Consult your local laws concerning refrigerant discharge and recycling. In many areas it may be illegal for anyone but a certified technician to service the A/C system. Always use an approved recovery station when discharging the air conditioning.

  1. Have the system discharged by a qualified technician using an approved recovery/recycling station.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rear duct by unfastening the screws, clamps and hoses.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the refrigerant hoses from the evaporator and blower assembly.
  8.  

Pull back the rubber insulation before disconnecting the high pressure hose

  1. Loosen the ground wire screw and move the wire aside.
  2.  
  3. Disengage the motor electrical connection.
  4.  


WARNING
Before loosening the case screws, support the lower case to prevent damage during removal.

  1. Loosen the lower-to-upper evaporator and blower case screws, then remove the lower case and motor assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the plate and retaining strap.
  4.  
  5. Remove the blower motor assembly.
  6.

To install:
  1. Install the blower motor assembly, aligning the wheels so they don't contact the case.
  2.  
  3. Install the retaining strap and plate.
  4.  
  5. Engage the lower case with the motor to the upper case and tighten the screws.
  6.  
  7. Fasten the motor's electrical connection.
  8.  
  9. Install the ground wire and tighten the screw.
  10.  
  11. Connect the refrigerant hoses and install the rubber insulation around the high pressure hose.
  12.  
  13. Install the rear duct.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Have the system recharged by a qualified technician using an approved recycling/recovery station.
  18.  

1996-97 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left rear quarter trim panels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the auxiliary heater as follows:
    1. Drain the coolant.
    2.

  1. Disengage the blower motor electrical connections, then loosen the motor retainers.
  2.  
  3. Remove the blower motor from the case.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Engage the motor to the case and tighten the retainers.
  2.  
  3. Fasten the electrical connections to the motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the auxiliary heater as follows:
    1. Install the heater in the van and tighten the retaining nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Engage the heater and A/C lines to the underside of the heater. Tighten the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Install the A/C and heater line cover and fasten the retaining screw.
    6.  
    7. Engage the electrical connections.
    8.  
    9. Connect the heater-to-floor and heater-to-roof ducts.
    10.  
    11. Have the system recharged by a qualified technician using an approved recycling/recovery station.
    12.  
    13. Refill the engine coolant system.
    14.  

  6.  
  7. Install the trim panel and connect the negative battery cables.
  8.
