Door Glass and Regulator

CAUTION
Always wear heavy gloves when handling glass to minimize the risk of injury.

Door Glass and Regulator
1987-95 MODELS

See Figure 1

Remove the door glass as follows:

  1. Lower the glass to the bottom of the door and remove the door trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door vent/window channel run assembly.
  4.  

Mask or cover any sharp edges that could scratch the glass.

  1. Slide the glass forward until the front roller is in line with the notch in the sash channel.
  2.  
  3. Disengage the roller from the channel.
  4.  
  5. Push the window forward, then tilt it up until the rear roller is disengaged.
  6.  
  7. Place the window in a level position, and raise it straight up and out of the door.
  8.  

Remove the regulator as follows.

  1. Raise the window and tape the glass in the full up position using cloth body tape.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel and the door panel to regulator bolts.
  4.  
  5. Slide the regulator rearward to disengage the rear roller from the sash channel. Then disengage the lower roller from the regulator rail.
  6.  
  7. Disengage the forward roller from the sash channel at the notch in the sash channel.
  8.  
  9. Collapse the regulator and remove it through the access hole in the door.

To install:

Install the regulator as follows.

  1. Lubricate the regulator and the sash channel and regulator rails with Lubriplate® or its equivalent.
  2.  
  3. Collapse the regulator and insert it through the access hole.
  4.  
  5. Engage the forward roller to the sash channel at the notch.
  6.  
  7. Slide the regulator rearward to engage the rear roller to the sash channel and also connect the lower roller to the to the regulator rail.
  8.  
  9. Slide the regulator into position and install the regulator drive.
  10.  
  11. Install the door panel to regulator bolts and tighten them to 84 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the trim panel and remove the tape from the window.
  14.  

Install the glass as follows:

  1. Lower the window into the door, push it forward, tilt it up and slide the rear roller into the sash channel.
  2.  
  3. Slide the window back until the front roller is in line with the notch in the sash channel, then engage the roller to the channel.
  4.  
  5. Slide the window rearward into the run channel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the masking tape and install the trim panel.
  8.  

1996-97 MODELS

  1. Remove the front and rear door garnish.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel and water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Lower window, then remove the inner and outer sealing strip.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the front run channel bolt and remove the channel.
  8.  
  9. Raise the window half way to gain access to the nuts retaining the window to the sash and loosen the nuts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the window.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the rear run channel retaining bolts and remove the channel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the inside door handle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lock rods from the door regulator.
  18.  
  19. Tag and disengage any electrical connections that will hamper regulator (module) removal.
  20.  
  21. Drill out the rivets retaining the regulator assembly (module to the door.
  22.  
  23. Remove the regulator (module) from the door.
  24.

  1. Install the regulator and rivet it to the door.
  2.  
  3. Engage all the electrical connections.
  4.  
  5. Connect the lock rods to the regulator.
  6.  
  7. Install the door handle.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear run channel. Tighten the run channel bolt to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the window and the nuts, then tighten the nuts to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Lower the front window and install the front run channel. Tighten the bolt to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the inner and outer sealing strips
  16.  
  17. Install the water deflector and the front and rear door garnish.
  18.  
  19. INstall the trim panel.
  20.
