REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front Doors
1987-95 MODELS

See Figure 1

  1. Raise the window completely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel and lock knob.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inside door handle.
  6.  
  7. If equipped, remove the remote control assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear glass run channel.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the lock screws.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lock by lowering it in the door far enough to provide clearance for the inside lock rod.

To install:
  1. Install the lock and align the lock rod with the hole in the top of the panel.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the lock retaining screws to 25 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the remote control assembly, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Install rear glass run channel
  8.  
  9. Install the lock knob and trim panel.
  10.  

1996-97 MODELS

See Figure 2

  1. Raise the window completely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel and water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear run channel.
  6.  
  7. Discoconnect the lock rods from the lock.
  8.  
  9. Disengage the electrical connections.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the lock rod guide from the lock.
  12.  
  13. Unfasten the lock screws.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lock by lowering it in the door far enough to provide clearance for the inside lock rod.

To install:
  1. Install the lock and tighten the lock retaining screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the lock rod guide.
  4.  
  5. Engage the electrical connections and the lock rods to the lock.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear run channel.
  8.  
  9. Install the water deflector and trim panel.
  10.  

Swing-Out Side Door
1987-95 MODELS

  1. Raise the window completely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door lock control as follows:
    1. Loosen the lock screw, then slide the control towards the front of the door.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the lock rods from the control by sliding the clip so that the large diameter slot is in line with lock rod, then pull the rod from the control.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. If equipped, remove the power door lock actuator as follows:
    1. Disengage the electrical connections.
    2.  
    3. Unfasten the screws, disconnect the actuator rod.
    4.  
    5. Remove the actuator.
    6.  

  8.  
  9. Loosen the door-to-remote control screws.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the lock screws.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lock and remote control with the rods.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Install the lock and remote control with the rods.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the lock retaining screws to 25 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the door-to-remote control screws and tighten them to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  6.  
  7. If equipped, install the power door lock actuator as follows:
    1. Install the actuator and connect the lock rod.
    2.  
    3. Install the actuator screws and engage the electrical connection.
    4.  
    5. Install the door lock control as follows.
    6.  
    7. Engage the rod lock to the control, then the control to the door and tighten the screws.
    8.  

  8.  
  9. Install the trim panel.
  10.  

1996-97 MODELS

See Figure 4

  1. Remove the trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the lock rods from the lock.
  4.  
  5. Disengage the electrical connections.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the lock-to-door screws and remove the lock.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the lock on the door and tighten the screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Engage the electrical connections an lock rods to the lock.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim panel.
  6.

Sliding Side Door
FRONT - 1987-95 MODELS

See Figure 5

  1. Remove the trim panel, then the lock access panel by loosening the screws and pulling it up to disengage the clips.
  2.  
  3. Remove the outside door handle.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the lock-to-door screws and disconnect the lock rods from lock.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lower latch rod from the lock.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the lock cylinder rod clips and remove the lock assembly.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Engage the lock assembly to the door and the rod clips to the lock.
  2.  
  3. Connect the lower latch rod and the rear door lock rods.
  4.  
  5. Install the lock-to-door screws and the outside handle.
  6.  
  7. Install the lock trim panel and screws.
  8.  
  9. Install the trim panel.
  10.  

REAR - 1987-95 MODELS

  1. Disconnect the lock rods from the lock.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the lock-to-door screws and remove the lock from the door.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Install the lock and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Engage the lock rods to the lock.
  4.  

1996-97 MODELS

  1. Remove the trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the lock rods from lock.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the lock retaining bolts and remove the lock.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the lock and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Engage the lock rods to the lock.
  4.  

Rear Door

See Figure 8

  1. Remove the trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Disconnet the lock rods from the lock.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, disengage the electrical connections.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the lock-to-door retaining screws and remove the lock.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the lock and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, engage the electrical connections.
  4.  
  5. Connect the lock rods.
  6.  
  7. Inside the trim panel.
  8.
