REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front Door
1987-95 MODELS

See Figures 1 and 2

Door handle clip remover Tool J-9886-01, or its equivalent, is required to perform the following procedure.

  1. Remove the window regulator handle using tool J-9886-01 or its equivalent.
  2.  
  3. Remove the window regulator handle bezel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door lock assembly handle using J-9886-01 or its equivalent.
  6.  
  7. Remove the control assembly handle bezel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the assist handle (if equipped).
  10.  
  11. Remove the armrest (if equipped).
  12.  
  13. if equipped, remove the door trim outer panel screws and pull the panel away from the retainer.
  14.  
  15. Remove the door trim inner panel screws and remove the trim inner panel.
  16.

To install:
  1. Install the trim panel and fasten the screws.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, install the door trim outer panel, engage the retainers by pushing them into the door and then fasten the screws.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, install the arm rest.
  6.  
  7. If equipped, install the assist handle.
  8.  
  9. Install the control assembly handle bezel and the door lock assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the window regulator bezel and handle.
  12.  

1996-97 MODELS

See Figures 3 through 9

Door handle clip remover Tool J-9886-01, or its equivalent, is required to perform the following procedure.

  1. Remove the window regulator handle using tool J-9886-01 or its equivalent.
  2.  
  3. Remove the window regulator handle bezel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front door garnish and trim plate.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the screws from the armrest.
  8.  
  9. Lift up on the trim panel to release the retaining tabs on the lower portion of the trim panel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the trim panel from the vehicle.
  12.

To install:
  1. Install the trim panel and align the retaining tabs with holes in the door and push down to lock it in place.
  2.  
  3. Fasten the screws in the armrest and install the door garnish.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim plate.
  6.  
  7. Install the window regulator handle bezel and regulator handle.
  8.  

Sliding Door
1987-95 MODELS

See Figure 10

  1. Unfasten the inside door handle screw and remove the handle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inside door handle cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock knob by pulling it from the door.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the assist strap screws and remove the strap.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the trim panels screws and remove the trim panel from the van.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the trim panel on the door and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the assist strap and tighten the screw.
  4.  
  5. Install the lock knob.
  6.  
  7. Install the inside door handle cover, inside door handle and fasten the screw.
  8.  

1996-97 MODELS

See Figures 11 and 12

  1. Remove the upper trim panel by grasping it and pulling it gently to disengage the retaining clips.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inside door bezel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper trim panel by grasping the panel and pulling it up to disengage the retaining clips.
  6.  
  7. Lift the lower trim panel to disengage the retaining tabs from the door and remove the trim panel from the van.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the lower trim panel and align the retaining tabs with the slots in the door and lower it into place.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper trim panel and align the clips with the holes in the retainers on the door and push.
  4.  
  5. Install the inside handle bezel.
  6.  
  7. Install the upper panel by sliding it in place and pressing the retaining clips into place.
  8.  

Swing-Out Side Doors
FRONT - 1987-95 MODELS

See Figure 13

  1. Remove the door strap by prying the lock knob off the lock rod, with the knob in the unlocked position.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the door handle bezel screws, then remove the bezel and lock knob.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the trim panel retaining screws, pull the panel from the retainers and remove the panel.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the retainer screws and remove the retainer.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the garnish screws and remove the garnish.
  10.

To install:
  1. Install the garnish and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the retainer and tighten the screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim panel and push edge of the panel into the retainers, then tighten the panel screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the handle bezel and lock knob, place the lock knob onto the lockrod and tighten the screws.
  8.  
  9. Install the door strap and tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  10.  

REAR - 1987-95 MODELS

See Figure 14

  1. Loosen the trim panel retaining screws and pull the panel from the retainers.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the side garnish molding screws and remove the garnish molding.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the retainer screws and remove the retainer.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the upper garnish screws and remove the upper garnish.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the upper garnish and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the retainer and tighten the screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the side garnish and tighten the screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the trim panel and push edge of the panel into the retainers, then tighten the panel screws.
  8.  

FRONT - 1996-97 MODELS

See Figure 15

  1. Loosen the assist handle screws, then remove the assist handle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inside handle and the trim plate.
  4.  
  5. Pull on the top of the trim panel to unsnap the retaining clips.
  6.  
  7. Lift the panel up to disengage it from the door.
  8.

  1. Align the retaining tabs on the trim panel with the slots on the door and lower the panel into place.
  2.  
  3. Pres the top of the panel to engage the clips.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim plate and handle bezel.
  6.  
  7. Install the assist handle and tighten the screws.
  8.  

REAR - 1996-97 MODELS

  1. Pull on the top of the trim panel to unsnap the retaining clips.
  2.  
  3. Lift the panel up to disengage it from the door.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Align the retaining tabs on the trim panel with the slots on the door and lower the panel into place.
  2.  
  3. Pres the top of the panel to engage the clips.
  4.  

Rear Doors
1987-95 MODELS

See Figure 17

  1. Loosen the trim panel screws.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel by sliding the panel out of the retainers.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Slide the panel into the retainers.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the trim panel retaining screws.
  4.

LEFT - 1996-97 MODELS

See Figure 18

  1. Pull on the top of the trim panel to unsnap the retaining clips around the window.
  2.  
  3. Lift the panel up to disengage it from the door.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Align the retaining tabs on the trim panel with the slots on the door and lower the panel into place.
  2.  
  3. Press the top of the panel to engage the clips.
  4.

RIGHT - 1996-97 MODELS

See Figure 19

  1. Unfasten the door handle bezel screws.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the trim plate screws, then remove the trim plate.
  4.  
  5. Pull on the top of the trim panel to unsnap the retaining clips.
  6.  
  7. Lift the panel up to disengage it from the door.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Align the retaining tabs on the trim panel with the slots on the door and lower the panel into place.
  2.  
  3. Pres the top of the panel to engage the clips.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim plate and tighten the screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the handle bezel.
  8.
