Hydraulic Clutch System Bleeding

Print

WITH BLEED SCREW

  1. Make sure the reservoir is full of DOT 3 fluid and is kept topped off throughout this procedure.
  2.
  3. Loosen the bleed screw, located on the actuator cylinder body next to the inlet connection.
  4.
  5. When a steady stream of fluid comes out the bleeder, tighten it to 17 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  6.
  7. Refill the fluid reservoir.
  8.
  9. To check the system, start the engine and wait 10 seconds.
  10.
  11. Depress the clutch pedal and shift into Reverse. If there is any gear clash, air may still be present.
  12.

WITHOUT BLEED SCREW

  1. Remove the actuator cylinder from the transaxle.
  2.
  3. Loosen the master cylinder attaching nuts to the ends of the studs.
  4.
  5. Remove the reservoir cap and diaphragm.
  6.
  7. Depress the actuator cylinder pushrod about 3 /4 in. (19mm) into its bore and hold the position.
  8.
  9. Install the reservoir diaphragm and cap while holding the actuator pushrod.
  10.
  11. Release the pushrod when the diaphragm and cap are properly installed.
  12.
  13. With the actuator lower than the master cylinder, hold the actuator vertically with the pushrod end facing the ground.
  14.
  15. Press the actuator pushrod into its bore with 1 /2 in. (13mm) strokes. Check the reservoir for bubbles. Continue until no bubbles enter the reservoir.
  16.
  17. Install the master cylinder and actuator.
  18.
  19. Refill the fluid reservoir.
  20.
  21. To check the system, start the engine and wait 10 seconds.
  22.
  23. Depress the clutch pedal and shift into Reverse. If there is any gear clash, the clutch is not fully disengaging due to air in the system; continue to bleed the air from the system until the clutch fully disengages.
