Clutch Master Cylinder

Use heavy duty brake fluid meeting DOT 3 specifications. Do NOT use any other fluid because severe clutch system damage will result.

See Figure 1

The clutch system fluid in the master cylinder should be checked every 6 months or 6,000 miles (10,000 km).

The clutch master cylinder reservoir is located on top of the left (driver) strut tower. Check the fluid level on the side of the reservoir. If fluid is required, remove the screw on filler cap and gasket from the master cylinder. Fill the reservoir to the full line in the reservoir with heavy duty brake fluid meeting DOT 3 specifications ONLY. Install the filler cap, making sure the gasket is properly seated in the cap. Make sure no dirt enters the system when adding fluid.

If fluid has to be added frequently, the system should be checked for a leak. Check for leaks at the master cylinder, slave cylinder and hose. If a leak is found, replace the component and bleed the system as outlined in Drive Train .
