REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screws from the rear trim plate.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the parking brake handle screw and remove the handle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear trim plate.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the screws from the front trim plate.
  10.  
  11. If equipped with a manual transaxle, remove the shifter knob and shifter boot screws.
  12.  
  13. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, remove the horseshoe clip from the handle and remove the handle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the ashtray/coin compartment, then unfasten the front console trim plate screw.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front console trim plate and radio trim plate.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the radio mounting screws, then detach the radio connectors.
  20.  
  21. Unfasten the console mounting screws and detach the electrical connectors.
  22.  
  23. Remove the console from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Position the console, then install the console mounting screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the radio connectors and install the radio screws.
  4.  
  5. Fasten the radio trim plate.
  6.  
  7. Install the front console trim plate screws.
  8.  
  9. Install the ashtray/coin compartment.
  10.  
  11. Install the shifter knob.
  12.  
  13. Install the rear trim plate and parking brake handle.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.

  1. Apply the parking brake, and place blocks of wood on the sides of the drive wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving.
  2.  
  3. Move the shift lever to the neutral position.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety purposes.
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable tool, remove the shift knob retainer from the slot in the lower portion of the knob. If equipped, unplug the electrical connector at the base of the shifter, under the boot, and remove the shift knob.
  8.  
  9. Remove the console trim plate by pulling upward gently to disengage the retaining clips. Unplug the electrical connectors and set the trim plate aside.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fasteners that retain the console.
  12.  
  13. Carefully lift the console enough to access the electrical connections. Unplug the electrical connections, and remove the console from the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Carefully position the console, and plug in the wire connectors.
  2.  
  3. Install the fasteners that retain the console.
  4.  
  5. Position the trim plate over the console, and plug in the wire connectors. If the shift knob is equipped with an overdrive switch, plug in the electrical connector, then snap the trim plate in place.
  6.  
  7. Place the shift knob onto the lever, and install the retainer.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Before driving the vehicle, remove the wood blocks securing the drive wheels.
  12.
