  1. Disconnect the speedometer cable, if equipped.
  2.
  3. Remove any remaining wire brackets or components surrounding the transaxle that would hinder removal.
  4.
  5. Unfasten the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
  6.
  7. Install a suitable engine support fixture as shown in the accompanying figure.
  8.

CAUTION
Do not attempt to remove the transaxle from the vehicle without an engine support; damage to the engine mounts, hoses, brackets, and wiring can occur.

  1. Remove the upper transaxle mount and through bolt.
  2.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.
  4.
  5. Remove the left front wheel and tire assembly.
  6.

  8.

CAUTION
Drive axle boot protector J 34754 or equivalent should be modified and installed on any drive axle before service procedures on or near the drive axle. Failure to do this may result in boot damage and possible joint failure.

  1. Unfasten the left stabilizer link nut.
  2.
  3. Remove the left drive axle.
  4.

On some models, it may be difficult to remove the transaxle without removing the right axle. Although it is typically unnecessary for transaxle removal, it is recommended both axles (and intermediate shaft) are removed from the vehicle to simplify the removal and installation procedure.

  1. Remove the left inner splash shield.
  2.
  3. Unfasten the attaching bolts and remove the left suspension support.
  4.
  5. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
