Windshield Wiper Blade and Arm

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1985-91 Vehicles

See Figure 1

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Turn the windshield wiper switch to the ON position.
  2.  
  3. When the wiper arms have reached the center of the windshield, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  4.  
  5. Place a piece of masking tape on the windshield under each wiper arm and mark the position of the wiper arm.
  6.  
  7. Lift the wiper arm from the windshield and pull the retaining latch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wiper arm from the transmission shaft.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Align the wiper arm with the marks made before removal and slide the wiper arm onto the transmission shaft.

  1. Push the retaining latch in and allow the wiper arm to return to the windshield. Make sure the marks are still in alignment.
  2.  
  3. Remove the masking tape.
  4.  

1992-95 Vehicles

See Figures 2, 3, 4 and 5

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Turn the windshield wiper switch to the ON position.
  2.  
  3. When the wiper arms have reached the center of the windshield, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  4.  
  5. Detach the washer hose from the plastic connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the protective cap to access the retaining nut.
  8.  
  9. Lift the wiper arm and insert a suitable pin or pop rivet completely through the two holes located next to the pivot of the arm.

  1. Unfasten the arm retaining nut.
  2.  
  3. Using a battery terminal puller or equivalent tool, pull the arm off its drive shaft. If necessary replace the wiper blade.

  1. Clean the knurls of the drive shaft with a suitable wire brush.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Install the wiper arm 1 inch (25mm) below the park ramp. Refer to the accompanying figure.

  1. Connect the pivot prevention arm from the wiper arm.
  2.  
  3. Secure the arm with a new nut. Tighten the nut to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Run the wiper system and check for correct wipe pattern. The left hand side blade tip should wipe to a limit of 1-1.5 inch (25-38mm) from the outside edge of the glass. The right hand side blade should overlap into the left hand wipe pattern as shown in the accompanying figure.

  1. Connect the washer hose, then install the protective cap.
