RANGE SELECTOR CABLE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. From inside the passenger compartment; place the steering column or floor shifter in the N position.
  6.  
  7. From under the hood; lift up the range selector cable locking button at the transaxle and cable bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the range selector cable end from the transaxle range selector lever.
  10.  
  11. Place the transaxle range selector lever in the N position. This position can be found by rotating the selector shaft/shift lever clockwise from P through R to N positions. ( P position is toward the rear of the vehicle, N is 2 detents forward of P ).
  12.  
  13. If not previously done, place the shift control inside the vehicle to the N position.
  14.  
  15. Snap the range selector cable end onto the range selector lever.
  16.  
  17. Push down the locking button at the cable bracket and connect the negative battery cable.
  18.  
  19. Check the selector positions in each range.
  20.  
  21. Remove the blocks from the wheels.
  22.  

PARK/LOCK CONTROL CABLE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. With the shift lever in the P position and the key in the LOCK position, make sure that the shifter cannot be moved to another position. The key should be removable from the column.
  4.  
  5. With the key in the RUN position and the shifter in the N position, the key should NOT turn to the LOCK position.
  6.  
  7. Adjust the cable by pulling up the cable connector lock at the shifter.
  8.  
  9. If the key cannot be removed in the P position, snap the connector lock button to the up position and move the cable connector nose rearward until the key can be removed from the ignition.
  10.  
  11. Snap the lock button down and recheck operation. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

THROTTLE VALVE (TV) CABLE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Pull on the upper end of the TV cable. It should travel a short distance with light resistance caused by a small spring on the TV lever.
  4.  
  5. The cable should go to the zero position when the upper end of the cable is released.
  6.  
  7. Verify that the TV cable is installed properly in the throttle lever and the slider is in the non-adjusted position as shown in the illustration.
  8.  
  9. With the engine NOT running, rotate the throttle lever to the full travel position (throttle body stop).
  10.  
  11. Depress and hold the adjustment button, pull the cable conduit out until the slider hits against the adjustment and release the button.
  12.  
  13. Repeat steps to ensure proper adjustment.
