  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  4.
  5. Remove the front wheel and tire assembly.
  6.
  7. For vehicles equipped with 3.4L engines, remove the engine splash shields.
  8.
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft-to-lower control arm insulator clamp/bracket bolts.
  10.
  11. Remove the lower ball joint cotter pin and nut. Discard the cotter pin.

  13. Using a ball joint/tie rod puller J-35917 or equivalent, separate the ball joint from the control arm.
  14.
  15. Unfasten the lower control arm-to-frame bolts and nuts, then remove the control arm. Be careful not to damage the halfshaft boots.
  16.

To install:
  1. Install the lower control arm and bolts as shown in the illustration. Do NOT tighten at this time.
  2.
  3. Install the ball joint to the control arm and install the nut.
  4.
  5. Tighten the lower control arm-to-frame bolts to 52-56 ft. lbs. (70-75 Nm).
  6.
  7. For 1988-91 vehicles, tighten the new ball joint nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) plus at least an additional 90° ( 1 / 2 flats), plus enough to align the cotter pin hole. Do NOT overtighten!
  8.
  9. For 1992-96 vehicles, tighten the lower ball joint nut to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm). Tighten to align the next slot in the nut with the cotter pin hole in the stud. Do NOT tighten more than 60º(1 flat) to align with the hole.
  10.
  11. Install a new cotter pin.
  12.
  13. Install the stabilizer shaft-to-lower control arm bracket and tighten to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).
  14.
  15. If removed, install the engine splash shields.
  16.
  17. Install the front wheel and tire assembly and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  18.
  19. Carefully lower the vehicle, then tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).
  20.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable. Check for proper suspension operation before moving the vehicle.
