Changing A Flat Tire

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface, then firmly apply the parking brake.
  2.  
  3. If you are in a public or in a potentially dangerous location, turn the 4-way hazard flashers ON.
  4.  
  5. Make sure the transaxle gear selector is in the P position for automatic transaxles or the N position for manual transaxle vehicles.
  6.  
  7. Remove the jacking tools and spare tire from the stowage area.
  8.  
  9. Connect the socket with side of ratchet marked UP/ON. Raise the jack slowly.
  10.  
  11. Position the jack head under the vehicle closest to the tire to be changed.
  12.  
  13. Raise the jack until the lift head mates with the vehicle notches as shown in the jacking previous illustration. DO NOT raise the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. If equipped, remove the wheel cover using the wedge end of ratchet. Connect the DOWN/ OFF side of the ratchet to the socket and loosen, but do not remove the wheel nuts.

  17. Connect the UP/ON side of the ratchet to the jack.
  18.  
  19. Raise the vehicle so the inflated spare will clear the surface when installing.
  20.  
  21. Remove the wheel lug nuts, then remove the wheel from the vehicle.
  22.  

To install:
  1. Install the spare tire, then hand-tighten the wheel lug nuts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the UP/ON side of the ratchet to the socket and tighten the wheel nuts in a criss-cross sequence.
  4.  
  5. Carefully lower the vehicle, then remove the jack.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the wheel lug nuts securely to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
  8.  
  9. If equipped, install the wheel cover and securely store all jacking equipment.
  10.  
  11. Start driving the vehicle slowly to make sure everything is secure.
