Take care to prevent water leaks if the sealing surfaces around the tail light assembly is disturbed. Damaged gaskets must be replaced by using body caulking compound or equivalent in the critical areas.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Open the rear luggage compartment.
  4.
  5. Either remove the carpet retaining clips and fold the carpet forward or remove the trunk trim panel(s).
  6.
  7. If accessible at this time, remove the bulb sockets from the light assembly.
  8.
  9. Remove the back light assembly retaining nuts/screws and remove the assembly. If the light assembly does not come right out, it may be because the gasket is holding it in place. Pry very gently on all corners equally and push the assembly out of the rear light cavity. When the assembly starts to move, cut the gasket with a knife.
  10.
  11. If not already done, remove the bulb sockets from the light assembly.
  12.
  13. If replacing, separate the bulb from the socket.
  14.

To install:
  1. If necessary, install a new bulb in the back light socket.
  2.
  3. Using a new gasket, install the light assembly and secure by tightening the retaining nuts/screws.
  4.
  5. Install the light sockets into their proper location.
  6.
  7. Install the carpeting and retaining clips or trim panels, as applicable.
  8.
  9. Close the luggage compartment (trunk) lid.
