  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the parking brake cable equalizer under the drivers door.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front cable from the rear cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nut from the underbody bracket.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle partially and remove the lower door sill trim plate.
  12.  
  13. Remove the drivers side sound insulator panel.
  14.  
  15. Fold the carpeting back and disconnect the electrical connector from the parking brake switch.
  16.  
  17. Remove the two release handle-to-instrument panel tie bar screws.
  18.  
  19. Remove the four lever assembly-to-body mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the cable from the ratcheting gear.
  22.  
  23. Remove the cable from the lever assembly using the cable release tool J-37043 or equivalent.
  24.  
  25. Remove the lever assembly from the vehicle.
  26.  

To install:
  1. Install the lever assembly and attach the cable to the mounting and ratcheting gear.
  2.  
  3. Install the four mounting bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the two release handle-to-instrument panel tie bar screws.
  6.  
  7. Connect the parking brake switch and negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Reinstall the carpeting, sound insulator and lower door sill trim plate.
  10.  
  11. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands.
  12.  
  13. Install the nut to the underbody bracket and front cable to the rear cable.
  14.  
  15. Adjust the parking brake cable as outlined in this Section.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle and check for proper operation.
