REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Trailing Arm

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, detach the ABS electrical harness.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the trailing arm-to-knuckle nut and bolt/screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the trailing arm-to-body nut, bolt, then remove the arm itself.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the trailing arm to the underbody.
  2.  
  3. Install the trailing arm-to-body nut and bolt/screw Do NOT tighten at this time.
  4.  
  5. Install the trailing arm-to-knuckle nut and bolt/screw. 96 vehicles, tighten the bolt to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm) plus an additional 75ºrotation. 96 vehicles, tighten the bolt to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm), plus an additional 90ºrotation.
  6.  
  7. If equipped, attach the ABS electrical harness.
  8.  
  9. Carefully lower the vehicle and recheck all repair procedures.
  10.  

Rear Rod

See Figures 1 and 3

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the auxiliary spring, if so equipped. If not equipped, remove the rod-to-knuckle bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower auxiliary spring bracket at the rod, if so equipped.
  8.  
  9. Scribe the toe adjusting cam, remove the rod-to-crossmember bolt and the rod itself.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the rod, push the bolt through the rod bushing and install the adjusting cam in its original location. Do not tighten at this time.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower auxiliary spring bracket-to-rod, if so equipped. Tighten the nut to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the rod-to-knuckle with thread locking compound. Do not tighten.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the rod-to-knuckle bolt to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm) plus 90º. Tighten the rod-to-crossmember bolt to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm) plus 60º.
  10.  
  11. Have a qualified alignment technician adjust the rear toe.
  12.  

Front Rod

See Figures 1 and 3

  1. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rod-to-knuckle bolt and exhaust pipe heat shield.
  6.  
  7. Lower and support the fuel tank just enough for access to the bolt at the frame.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rod-to-frame bolt and the rod itself.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the rod, bolts and nuts. Do not tighten at this time.
  2.  
  3. Apply thread locking compound to the rod-to-knuckle bolt.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the rod-to-knuckle bolt to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm) plus 90º. Tighten the rod-to-crossmember bolt to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm) plus 60º.
  6.  
  7. Reposition the fuel tank.
  8.  
  9. Install the exhaust pipe heat shield, rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  10.
