GM Lumina/Silhouette/Transport APVs 1990-1999 Repair Guide

Fluid Level Sensor

Found in the fluid reservoir, this sensor is a float, which operates two reed switches when low fluid level is detected. One switch will cause the red BRAKE warning light to illuminate; the other signals the EBCM and possibly other computers of the low fluid situation. Depending on model and equipment, other messages may be displayed to the driver. The EBCM will engage the amber ANTILOCK warning light and disable the ABS function.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Detach the electrical connector from the fluid level sensor.
  5. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to compress the locking tabs at the inboard side of the master cylinder, then remove the switch.
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
