Fuel Meter Cover/Pressure Regulator

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION



The fuel meter cover and pressure regulator are serviced as a complete assembly only.


CAUTION
Do not remove the screws securing the pressure regulator to the fuel meter cover. The regulator includes a spring, which if released, could cause personal injury. Disassembly might also result in a fuel leak between the diaphragm and the regulator container.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Unplug the electrical connectors at the injectors by squeezing the two tabs together and pulling it straight up.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fuel meter cover attaching screws and remove the fuel meter cover.
  6.  

When removing the fuel meter cover screws, note the location of the two short screws.

To install:
  1. Clean the gasket sealing surfaces and install a new pressure regulator dust seal, fuel meter outlet passage gasket and cover gasket.
  2.  


WARNING
Do not immerse the fuel meter cover (with pressure regulator) in cleaner, as damage to the pressure regulator diaphragm could occur.

  1. Install the fuel meter cover. Apply Loctite® 262 or equivalent to the screw threads and install and torque the screws to 27 inch lbs. (3.0 Nm).
  2.  

Install the short screws next to the injectors.

  1. Reconnect the injector electrical plugs.
  2.  
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 2 seconds then turn to the OFF position for 10 seconds. Again turn the switch to the ON position and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly.
