REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disable the SIR system, as outlined in of this guide.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the defroster grille retaining screw, then remove the grille.
  6.  
  7. To remove the instrument panel end-caps, on some models, use a suitable prytool. Position the tool behind the cover and carefully pry outward. For other models, unfasten the end-cap retaining screws and remove the cap.

  1. Remove the glove compartment by opening the door and gently squeezing in at the pivots while pulling outwards.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel sound insulators by removing their attaching screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the passenger side airbag, as follows:

NOTE
Refer to of this guide for safety warnings on airbag replacement.

  1. Remove the passenger airbag attaching screws. The screws are accessible through the compartment area.
  2.  

  1. Remove the steering wheel as outlined in of this guide.
  2.  
  3. Remove the multi-function switch as outlined in of this guide.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering column covers by removing the attaching screws.
  6.  
  7. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate, as follows:
    1. Remove the screws from the cluster trim plate.
    2.  
    3. Gently pry out the cluster trim plate.
    4.  
    5. Label and detach any electrical connectors
    6.  

  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument cluster assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the 4 screws attaching the cluster.
    2.  
    3. Pull the cluster rearward in order to remove the cluster.
    4.  
    5. Unplug the electrical connector.
    6.  

  10.  
  11. Remove the HVAC controls, as follows:
    1. Pull the heater and A/C control away from the instrument panel.
    2.  
    3. Detach the electrical connections.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the rear of the vacuum switch.
    6.  

  12.  
  13. Remove the radio and remote cassette player. Refer to the procedure outlined in of this guide.
  14.  
  15. Remove the ignition switch as outlined in of this guide.
  16.  
  17. Remove the center console. Refer to procedure outlined in this section.
  18.  
  19. Remove the cigarette lighter.
  20.  
  21. Remove the ashtray.
  22.  
  23. Remove the screws attaching the instrument panel from the tie bar, then carefully remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

  25. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
