Macpherson Strut and Spring Assembly

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, then raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Place jackstands under the rear subframe. Lower the vehicle slightly so the weight of the vehicle rests on the jackstands and NOT the control arms.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  6.  
  7. Mark the position of the strut-to-rear knuckle fasteners, as follows:
    1. Using a sharp tool, scribe or mark the knuckle along the outboard strut radius.
    2.  
    3. Scribe the strut flange on the inboard side along the curve of the knuckle.
    4.  

  8.  
  9. From inside the trunk, remove the upper strut-to-body nut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the strut bolts from inside the fender well.
  12.  
  13. Unfasten the strut-to-knuckle bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the strut from the body.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Loosely install the strut-to-rear knuckle bolts.
  2.  


NOTE
Carefully align the scribe marks to ensure proper alignment.

  1. Install the strut-to-body bolts inside the fender well.
  2.  
  3. Install the strut mount-to-body mounts in the trunk area.
  4.  
  5. Install the strut-to-knuckle bolts and tighten to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the rear wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the lug nuts on the rear wheels to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Check the alignment.
  14.  

OVERHAUL



Overhaul the rear strut assembly as outlined under Front Suspension in this section.
