Rear Knuckle

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




NOTE
It will be necessary to disconnect the rear wheel cylinder. Refer to procedure outlined in .

  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Matchmark the installed position of the strut-to-knuckle fasteners, as follows:
    1. Using a sharp tool, scribe or mark the knuckle along the outboard strut radius.
    2.  
    3. Scribe the strut flange on the inboard side along the curve of the knuckle.
    4.  
    5. Make a scribe mark across the strut/knuckle interface.
    6.

  7. Remove the stabilizer shaft link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear lateral link-to-knuckle nut, bolt, and washers. Refer to procedure outlined in this section.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake drum.
  12.  
  13. Detach the ABS electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the rear wheel hub.
  16.  
  17. Remove the brake backing plate.
  18.  
  19. Remove the trailing arm from the knuckle. Refer to the procedure outlined in this section.

  1. Remove the rear strut-to-knuckle bolts and nuts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the knuckle.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Install the knuckle.
  2.  


NOTE
Do not tighten the strut-to-knuckle fasteners until all the other rear components are connected and tightened.

  1. Install the rear strut-to-knuckle bolts and nuts. Hand-tighten the nuts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the lateral links to the knuckle and snug the nut. Tighten lateral link-to-knuckle nut to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the trailing arm to the knuckle. Tighten the bolt to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the backing plate.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear wheel hub.
  10.  
  11. Attach the ABS electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Install the brake drum.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the strut-to-knuckle bolts to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the stabilizer shaft link, as outlined in this section.
  18.  
  19. Install the tire and wheel.
  20.  
  21. Lower the vehicle.
