OPERATION



The low oil level sensor activates the OIL light in the instrument cluster when the oil level in the pan goes below a certain level. The sensor is mounted on the oil pan.


CAUTION
The EPA warns that prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause a number of skin disorders, including cancer! You should make every effort to minimize your exposure to used engine oil. Protective gloves should be worn when changing the oil. Wash your hands and any other exposed skin areas as soon as possible after exposure to used engine oil. Soap and water, or waterless hand cleaner should be used.


WARNING
Operating the engine without the proper amount and type of engine oil will result in severe engine damage.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



3.1L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container. Refer to procedure in of this guide.
  6.  
  7. Replace oil drain plug and tighten to the proper specification.
  8.  
  9. Detach the electrical connector from the sensor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt in the center of the oil level sensor, then remove the sensor.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the sensor and retaining bolt, then tighten the bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Add the correct type and amount of engine oil to the crankcase, then connect the negative battery cable.
