Resonator/Muffler/Tailpipe Assembly

REMOVAL and INSTALLATION

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove two nuts and disconnect the resonator/muffler/tailpipe assembly from the front pipe/catalytic converter assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt and hanger from the pipe at the resonator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the three bolts and hangers from the muffler.
  8.  
  9. Remove the resonator/muffler/tailpipe assembly from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
  2.  
  3. Install the resonator/muffler/tailpipe assembly to the vehicle and secure muffler with three hangers. Do not tighten hanger bolts fully.
  4.  
  5. Connect the resonator/muffler/tailpipe assembly, with a new gasket, to the front pipe/catalytic converter assembly and secure with two nuts. Do not tighten bolts fully.
  6.  
  7. Connect the hanger tot he pipe at the resonator and secure with one bolt. Do not tighten bolt fully.
  8.  
  9. Align all system components properly to prevent any noise or vibrations before tightening fasteners.
  10.  
  11. Tighten resonator/muffler/tailpipe assembly nuts to 26 ft. lbs.. (35 Nm) and all hanger bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Lower vehicle. Start the engine and check for leaks.
