FLUID RECOMMENDATIONS



When adding fluid or refilling the manual transaxle always use GL-5, 80W or 80W/90 weight gear oil.

LEVEL CHECK

With Oil Level Gauge
  1. Drive the vehicle to bring the transmission up to operating temperature.
  2.  
  3. With the engine stopped, remove the oil level gauge front the side case of the transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Check the color and smell of the oil. If it is black in color or smells burnt, further transmission service is needed.
  6.  
  7. Wipe off oil level gauge with clean cloth.
  8.  
  9. Fit the oil level gauge to the transaxle side case so that the threads rest on top of the case.
  10.  
  11. Remove the gauge and check oil level. The level should be between FULL and LOW level line.
  12.  
  13. If the level is below LOW mark, add oil until the proper level is reached.
  14.  

With Oil Level/Filler Plug
  1. Drive the vehicle to bring the transmission up to operating temperature.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the transaxle oil level/filler plug.
  6.  
  7. Check the color and smell of the oil. If it is black in color or smells burnt, further transmission service is needed.
  8.  
  9. Transaxle oil level should be even with the bottom of the plug hole. If oil level is low, adjust oil level accordingly.
  10.  
  11. Install transaxle oil level/filler plug and tighten to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  

DRAIN AND REFILL



See Figure 2

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.

  1. Place a drain pan under transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Remove transaxle oil level/filler plug or oil level gauge.
  4.  
  5. Remove transaxle drain plug using a 10mm hex socket or wrench and drain oil.
  6.  
  7. Check the color and smell of the oil. If it is black in color or smells burnt, further transmission service is be needed.
  8.  
  9. Apply Loctite® pipe sealant, or equivalent to the threaded portion of the transaxle drain plug.
  10.  
  11. Install transaxle drain plug an tighten to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Remove drain pan from under transaxle and lower vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Properly dispose of used oil.
  16.
