Heater Core

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Sprint
  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the glove compartment.
  4.  
  5. Remove the defroster hoses from the heater case.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the blower motor and resistor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the control cables from the heater case.
  10.  
  11. Pull out center vent louver.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect side vent ducts from center vent duct.
  14.  
  15. Remove center vent duct, ashtray upper plate and instrument panel member stay.
  16.  
  17. Remove the heater assembly attaching nuts.
  18.  
  19. Loosen the heater case top side mounting bolt through box wrench from glove compartment side.
  20.  
  21. Remove the heater control assembly by raising the dash panel.
  22.  
  23. Remove clips to separate the heater case into right and left sections.
  24.  
  25. Pull out the heater core from the heater case.
  26.  

To install:
  1. Install the heater core in the heater case.
  2.  
  3. Install clips to join the heater case sections.
  4.  
  5. Install the heater control assembly by raising the dash panel.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the heater case top side mounting bolt through box wrench from glove compartment side.
  8.  
  9. Install the heater assembly attaching nuts.
  10.  
  11. Install center vent duct, ashtray upper plate and instrument panel member stay.
  12.  
  13. Connect side vent ducts from center vent duct.
  14.  
  15. Install center vent louver.
  16.  
  17. Connect the control cables to the heater case.
  18.  
  19. Connect the wiring connectors to the blower motor and resistor.
  20.  
  21. Install the defroster hoses to the heater case.
  22.  
  23. Install the glove compartment.
  24.  
  25. Fill the cooling system.
  26.  
  27. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  28.  

Metro
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the instrument panel and center supports.
  6.  
  7. Remove the heater control assembly from the support member.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect all electrical connectors and cables from the heater case.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the heater core hoses.
  12.  
  13. Remove the defrost duct and speedometer retaining bracket from the heater case.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fastening bolts, grommets and floor duct, if equipped, from the case and remove the case from the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Separate the heater case and remove the heater core.
  18.  

To install:
  1. Install the core and assemble the heater case.
  2.  
  3. Install the fastening bolts, grommets and floor duct to the case after installation.
  4.  
  5. Install the defrost duct and speedometer retaining bracket to the heater case.
  6.  
  7. Connect the heater core hoses.
  8.  
  9. Connect all electrical connectors and cables to the heater case.
  10.  
  11. Install the center supports and instrument panel.
  12.  
  13. Refill the engine coolant.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Run engine and check for coolant leaks.
  18.
