Brake Backing Plate

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake drum, brake shoes and other components.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the brake pipe from the wheel cylinder.
  8.  
  9. Remove the parking brake cable retainer from the backing plate and feed the cable through to remove.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake backing plate mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake backing plate.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Install the brake backing plate using sealer on the mating surfaces of the brake backing plate and the suspension knuckle. Tighten mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the parking brake cable from the backing plate and secure with retainer.
  4.  
  5. Connect the brake pipe from the wheel cylinder and tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the brake drum, brake shoes and other components.
  8.  
  9. Flush and bleed the brake system.
  10.  
  11. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Lower the vehicle.
  12.
