REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1985-88

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel and then the upper and lower steering column covers.
  4.  
  5. Use a small screwdriver or similar tool to gently pry the switches from the lower dash trim panel. Disconnect the wiring and remove the switches.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 screws under the panel and pull out the center cluster finish panel. It is also secured by spring clips behind the dash - pull straight out away from the dash so as not to break the plastic.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 7 screws holding the upper trim panel.
  10.

  1. Remove the 8 screws holding the radio and its accessories trim cover.
  2.  
  3. Slide the radio out of the dash. Disconnect the antenna lead and the wiring connector.
  4.  

To install:
  1. When reinstalling, connect the wiring and antenna leads and place the radio in the dash. Make sure the wiring is not crushed or pinched.
  2.  
  3. Install the 8 screws, making sure the radio is straight and in position.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Route the switch cables through the openings in the center trim panel. Install the center cluster finish panel, making sure all the clips engage properly. Install the 2 screws.
  8.  
  9. Connect the switches to the wiring harnesses and push the switches firmly into place in the trim panel.
  10.  
  11. Install the upper and lower steering column covers and reinstall the steering wheel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  

1989-92

See Figure 2

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the 7 screws from the steering column covers and remove the covers.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 attaching screws from the lower part of the trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trim panel, being careful of the concealed spring clips behind the panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the wiring from the switches mounted in the trim panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 4 mounting screws from the radio.
  10.

  1. Remove the radio from the dash until the wiring connectors are exposed.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors and the antenna cable from the body of the radio and remove the radio from the car.
  4.  

To install:
  1. When reinstalling, connect all the wiring and antenna cable first, then place the radio in position within the dash.
  2.  
  3. Install the 4 attaching screws.
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the wiring harnesses to the switches in the trim panel and make sure the switches are secure in the panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the trim panel (make sure all the spring clips engage) and install the 2 screws.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering column covers and the 7 screws.
  10.  
  11. Install the steering wheel.
  12.  

1993
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center trim panel by gently prying around the edges to disconnect the clips.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 4 screws and the radio with the cup holder from the center console.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical and antenna connectors from the radio.
  8.  
  9. Remove the radio from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  12.
