Lateral Links and Strut Rod

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1993 Models

See Figure 1

  1. Jack up vehicle and remove the rear wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 bolts and nuts and remove the strut rod.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 nuts and washers and remove the lateral link.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the resonator/intermediate pipe assembly and gasket from the catalytic converter.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the resonator/intermediate pipe assembly and gasket from the muffler/tailpipe assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 4 bolts retaining the muffler/tailpipe assembly to the body.
  12.  
  13. Remove the muffler/tailpipe assembly from the hanger.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the intermediate pipe heat shield.
  16.  
  17. Support the suspension crossmember with a jack and remove the 6 bolts attaching the crossmember to the body. Lower the suspension crossmember.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 2 bolts and 4 washers and remove the front lateral link.
  20.  

To install:
  1. Install the 2 bolts and 4 washers and the front lateral link. Do not install the nuts until the rear lateral link is installed in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Raise the suspension crossmember with the jack and install the 6 bolts attaching the crossmember to the body. Tighten the bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the 3 bolts and connect the intermediate pipe heat shield.
  6.  
  7. Install the muffler/tailpipe assembly to the hanger and secure to the body with the 4 retaining bolts.
  8.  
  9. Install the 2 bolts and connect the resonator/intermediate pipe assembly and gasket to the muffler/tailpipe assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the 2 bolts and connect the resonator/intermediate pipe assembly and gasket to the catalytic converter.
  12.  
  13. Install the rear lateral link and install the 2 nuts and washers. Do not tighten fully at this time.
  14.  
  15. Install the strut rod and secure with the 2 bolts and nuts but do not tighten at this time.
  16.  
  17. Stabilize the suspension by bouncing the vehicle up and down a few times.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the lateral link bolts and nuts to 87 ft. lbs. (118 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Tighten the strut rod bolts and nuts to 67 ft. lbs. (91 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the rear wheel.
  24.  
  25. Lower the vehicle and check the rear wheel alignment.
