REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the radiator grille.
  4.  
  5. On 1994-95 utility models, remove the bumper.
  6.  
  7. On models equipped, the bumper end cap must be removed.
  8.  
  9. Matchmark and remove the hood from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the battery, battery tray and radiator coolant bottle (if present).
  12.  
  13. If equipped, remove the VCM/PCM.
  14.  
  15. Remove the antenna mast and base. For details, please refer to the procedure earlier in this section.

  17. On 1994-95 utility models, remove the wiper arms and the cowl vent grille.
  18.  
  19. On 1994-95 utility models, remove the hood hinge-to-fender nut and bolt.
  20.  
  21. Remove the fender retaining bolts. Locations should include all or some of the following, radiator support, reinforcement, wheelhouse panel, door frame and/or door hinge. Keep track of any shim washers which may come lose after removing fender bolts. The shim washers should be installed in their original locations during assembly.

  23. Separate any necessary wiring or vacuum hoses from the fender, then remove it from the vehicle.

  25. Installation is the reverse of the removal. Tighten all fender retaining bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) on all pick-up models and 1996-99 utility models. On 1994-95 utility models tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  1. Remove the radiator grille.
  2.  
  3. On 1994-95 utility models, remove the bumper.
  4.  
  5. On models equipped the bumper end cap must be removed.
  6.  
  7. Matchmark and remove the hood from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. If present on this side, remove the coolant reservoir bottle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the windshield wiper bottle from the fender.
  12.  
  13. Remove the horn from the fender.
  14.  
  15. Remove the hood latch cable.
  16.  
  17. On 1994-95 utility models, remove the wiper arms and the cowl vent grille.
  18.  
  19. If equipped with 4 wheel ABS, remove the BPMV from the fender. If the assembly cannot be repositioned slightly and supported with the lines attached, the unit must be removed completely from the vehicle. DO NOT kink or damage the brake lines, brake failure and serious personal injury could result.

  21. On 1994-95 utility models, remove the hood hinge-to-fender nut and bolt.
  22.  
  23. Remove the fender retaining bolts. Locations should include all or some of the following: radiator support, reinforcement, wheelhouse panel, door frame and/or door hinge. Keep track of any shim washers which may come lose after removing fender bolts. The shim washers should be installed in their original locations during assembly.
