REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1994 Pick-Up Models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument cluster trim bezel. Since the light switch assembly is mounted to the bezel, once the bezel is released, pull it forward in order to disconnect the wiring, then the bezel may be removed.
  4.  
  5. If equipped disconnect the shift indicator cable from the lower shift bowl.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 4 cluster-to-instrument panel retaining screws.
  8.  
  9. Carefully pull the cluster forward and from the multi-pin connector, then remove the cluster from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Carefully position the cluster in the vehicle, then firmly seat it onto the connector.
  2.

  1. Install the cluster retaining screws and tighten to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  2.  
  3. If equipped, connect the shift indicator cable to the lower shift bowl and adjust, as necessary.
  4.  
  5. Install the instrument cluster bezel.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

1994 Utility Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the lamp switch trim plate screws and remove the trim plate.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the lamp switch electrical harness.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the A/C and heater control assembly screws, remove the control assembly and unplug the assembly wiring harness.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the filler panel screws and remove the filler panel.
  10.  
  11. If equipped, disconnect the shift indicator cable from the lower shift bowl.
  12.  
  13. Unfasten the cluster housing retainers and remove the cluster housing.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cluster assembly.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Carefully position the cluster in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Place the cluster housing into position and install the housing retainers.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, connect the shift indicator cable to the lower shift bowl.
  6.  
  7. Install the filler panel and tighten its retaining screws.
  8.  
  9. Attach the A/C and heater assembly wiring harness, place the assembly into position and tighten its retaining screws.
  10.  
  11. Attach the lamp switch harness, install the switch trim plate and tighten its retaining screws.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  

1995-99 Models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the sound insulators/trim panels.
  4.  
  5. If necessary for access, unfasten the steering column nuts and if necessary, the bolts at the lower flange, then lower the column for access.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the instrument cluster bezel screws located at the lower edge of the bezel. If no screws are present, then remove the bezel by pulling it straight out.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the four screws retaining the instrument cluster to the instrument panel, unplug any necessary cluster electrical connections, then remove the cluster.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the cluster to the instrument panel making sure the cluster is firmly seated onto the connector, attach any necessary electrical connections and tighten the cluster fasteners to 17 inch. lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the instrument cluster panel bezel by snapping it into position, then if equipped, install the screws along the bottom of the bezel..
  4.  
  5. If lowered, re-position the steering column and tighten retaining nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) on 1995 models. On 1996-99 models tighten the nuts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm). If removed, tighten lower flange bolts to 120 inch lbs. (13 Nm).

  7. Install the sound insulators/trim panels.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.
