REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front Door Lock Assembly
1994 models
  1. Remove the door trim panel. For details, please refer to the procedure located earlier in this section.
  2.  
  3. If necessary, remove the water deflector.
  4.  

The water deflector is secured by a strip of adhesive between the deflector and door, as well as waterproof sealing tape. Upon installation, make sure a good seal is achieved to keep water from entering into the body. If necessary, use strip caulking as a sealant between the deflector and door.

  1. Remove the lock rods from the inner handle housing.
  2.  
  3. Remove the outside handle lock rod from the lock mechanism.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock cylinder rod from the lock cylinder.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lock assembly-to-door retaining screws, then remove the assembly from the door.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the lock retainers to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm) on utility models and 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm) on pick-up models. Be sure to check the operation of the lock assembly before installing the door water deflector (if equipped) and trim panel.

1995-99 models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel. For details, please refer to the procedure located earlier in this section.
  4.  
  5. If necessary, remove the water deflector.
  6.  

The water deflector is secured by a strip of adhesive between the deflector and door, as well as waterproof sealing tape. Upon installation, make sure a good seal is achieved to keep water from entering into the body. If necessary, use strip caulking as a sealant between the deflector and door.

  1. Remove the inside handle rod from the lock assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the outside handle lock rod from the lock assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inside lock lever rod from lock assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the outside lock cylinder rod from the lock assembly.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the power actuator wiring connector, if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lock assembly-to-door retaining screws, then remove the assembly from the door.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the lock retainers to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Be sure to check the operation of the lock assembly before installing the door water deflector (if equipped) and trim panel.

Rear Door Lock Assembly
1994 Models
  1. Remove the armrest and the trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the armrest bracket and the sound deadener.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the lock rods from the lock mechanism.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the lock assembly retaining screws, and then remove the lock assembly.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the lock retaining screws to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  10.  

1995-99 MODELS
  1. Remove the door trim panel and the water deflector.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the inside lock rod; inside handle rod and outside handle rod from the lock assembly.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, unplug the power actuator electrical connection.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the lock assembly retainers and remove the assembly from the door.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the lock retainers to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).

Lock Cylinder Assembly
1994 models

See Figures 2 and 3

  1. Remove the trim panel and the armrest bracket.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflectors. Roll the window up.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock cylinder retainer.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lock cylinder from the linkage.
  8.  
  9. On utility models, remove the lock cylinder gasket.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.

1995 models

  1. Raise the window to the closed position.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel. For details, please refer to the procedure located earlier in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the water deflector (if equipped) and roll up the window.
  6.  

The water deflector is secured by a strip of adhesive between the deflector and door, as well as waterproof sealing tape. Upon installation, make sure a good seal is achieved to keep water from entering into the body. If necessary, use strip caulking as a sealant between the deflector and door.

  1. If necessary, remove the outside door handle screw access hole plug.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the outside handle rod from the rod clip.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the lock cylinder rod from the rod clip.
  6.  
  7. Remove the outside handle mounting retainers.
  8.  
  9. Remove the door lock cylinder from the outside handle housing.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the handle mounting retainers to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm). Check the operation of the lock cylinder before installing the water deflector (if equipped) and the door trim panel.
