Fuel Pressure Regulator

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1994-97 Models

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel return pipe from the regulator and discard the old O-ring.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the regulator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel return pipe clamp.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pressure regulator attaching screw, then remove the regulator and discard the O-ring.

To install:
  1. If the old pressure regulator is being installed, check the filter screen (if equipped) for contamination and replace, if necessary.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate the new O-rings with clean engine oil, then install them on the pressure regulator and fuel pipe.
  4.  
  5. Install the pressure regulator onto the manifold.
  6.  
  7. Make sure the regulator attaching screw threads are covered with Loctite®262 or an equivalent threadlocking compound, then install and tighten the screws to 31 inch lbs. (3.5 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the vacuum hose to the regulator.
  10.  
  11. Make sure the new O-ring is in position, then connect the fuel return pipe to the pressure regulator and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the fuel return pipe clamp and attaching nut to the lower intake manifold assembly.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable, then pressurize the fuel system by cycling the ignition (without attempting to start the engine) and check for leaks.
  16.  

1998-99 Models
  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the vacuum hose form the regulator.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the pressure regulator attaching screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the regulator and O-ring. Discard the O-ring.
  8.  

To install:
  1. If the old pressure regulator is being installed, check the filter screen (if equipped) for contamination and replace, if necessary.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate the new O-ring with clean engine oil, then install it on the pressure regulator.
  4.  
  5. Position the regulator on the fuel.
  6.  
  7. Make sure the regulator attaching screw threads are covered with Loctite®262 or an equivalent threadlocking compound, then install and tighten the screw to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Inspect for leaks as follows:
    1. Turn the switch to the ON position for 2 seconds.
    2.  
    3. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    4.  
    5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and check for leaks.
