OPERATION

The oil pressure sender relays to the dash gauge the oil pressure in the engine. The sensor is usually located on the top left side of the engine on the 2.2L engine and on the top left side near the distributor/high voltage switch on the 4.3L engine.

Testing

WARNING
This test is for testing the sender only. Verify that the engine has sufficient oil pressure before conducting this test.

  1. Unplug the sender electrical connection.
  2.
  3. Connect one lead of a ohmmeter to the sender terminal and the other lead to the sender body.
  4.
  5. With the engine off the resistance should be approximately 1 ohm.
  6.
  7. Start the engine. The resistance should increase as the engine speed increases.
  8.
  9. If not, replace the sender.
