  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arms from the linkage so the cowl may be removed.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cowl vent grille and screen. On some vehicles, the windshield washer hose may be connected to a hard plastic fitting located under the cowl grille. If the hose connection is very tight it may make removing the cowl grille difficult. Take your time if difficulty is encountered. If possible, reach underneath the grille to disconnect the hose from the fitting.

  7. Remove the wiper transmission from the wiper motor drive link using J-39232 or an equivalent tool.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the wiring from the wiper motor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wiper motor-to-cowl screws. Carefully rotate the motor and guide the drive link from the hole in the cowl, then remove the motor from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Guide the motor drive link through the hole in the cowl, then install the motor and secure using the retainers.
  2.  
  3. Install the drive link socket onto the crank arm ball using J-39529 or an equivalent tool. The wiper transmission assembly must be installed to the crank arm PAST the 2nd detent so that the seal is compressed to a maximum height of 1 in. (25.5mm)
  4.  
  5. Attach the wiring to the wiper motor.
  6.  
  7. Install the cowl vent grille and screen. On vehicles equipped with a plastic fitting attached to the cowl grille, the washer hose should be connected as the grille is positioned. Make sure the hose is not pinched or damaged as the grille is fastened.
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arm and blade assemblies to the transmission linkage.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable and verify proper operation.
  12.  

1994 UTILITY MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arms from the linkage so the cowl may be removed.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cowl vent grille and screen. On some vehicles, the windshield washer hose may be connected to a hard plastic fitting located under the cowl grille. If the hose connection is very tight it may make removing the cowl grille difficult. Take your time if difficulty is encountered. If possible, reach underneath the grille to disconnect the hose from the fitting.

  7. Unplug the wiper motor electrical connection.
  8.  
  9. Loosen, but do not remove, the two nuts from the transmission drive link socket.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the three wiper motor-to-cowl retainers.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wiper motor assembly.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Place the wiper motor assembly into position and tighten the retaining screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the drive link socket to the crank arm ball stud of the wiper motor. Tighten the drive link socket nuts to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the wiring to the wiper motor.
  6.  
  7. Install the cowl vent grille and screen. On vehicles equipped with a plastic fitting attached to the cowl grille, the washer hose should be connected as the grille is positioned. Make sure the hose is not pinched or damaged as the grille is fastened.
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arm and blade assemblies to the transmission linkage.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable and verify proper operation.
  12.  

Rear
1994 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the wiper motor cover screws, then remove the cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the roof trim cover to access the wiper motor electrical connection.
  6.  
  7. Unplug the wiper motor electrical connection.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wiper arm assembly, then remove the nut and spacer from the wiper motor.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the hinge assembly screw and remove the wiper motor assembly.
  12.  

To install:
The wiper motor spacer is keyed to the driveshaft
  1. Place the wiper motor into position, then install the spacer and nut onto the wiper motor driveshaft on the outside of the glass.
  2.  
  3. Install the hinge assembly screw.
  4.  
  5. Make sure the endgate glass is properly aligned.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the wiper nut and the hinge cover screw to 57 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arm assembly.
  10.  
  11. Attach the wiper motor electrical connection and install the roof trim panel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable and check for proper motor operation.
  14.  

1995-99 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arm assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the nut and washer from the wiper motor shaft.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner trim panel from the end gate.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the wiper motor electrical connection.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the two wiper motor retaining screws and remove the wiper motor.
  12.  
  13. Unplug the wiper motor harness from the controller, then remove the controller from the wiper motor.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Install the controller on the wiper motor and attach the motor wiring harness to the controller.
  2.  
  3. Place the wiper motor in position and install the two retaining screws. Do not tighten the screws until the wiper motor shaft is centered in the tailgate hole. Once the shaft is centered, tighten the screws to 57 inch lbs. (6.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the wiper motor electrical connection, then install the end gate trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the spacer and nut onto the shaft and tighten the nut to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arm assembly and connect the negative battery cable. Check for proper motor operation.
  10.
