REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The cruise control actuator switch on most S/T vehicles with factory or dealer installed systems is part of the multi-function lever located on the steering column.

Vehicles Through 1992

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disengage the lever electrical connector (down towards the base of the column).
  4.
  5. Remove or reposition the harness protector cover for access, then attach a length of piano or mechanic's wire to the connector.
  6.

On some vehicles removal and installation of the wiring and lever assembly may be easier if the shift lever is positioned in Low, the turn signal switch is in the RIGHT TURN position and tilt columns are placed in the FULL UP position.

  1. Carefully pull the multi-function lever from the turn signal switch. Once the lever is free from the steering column, carefully pull the harness connector and length of wire through the column. Leave the wire in the column to pull the wiring into position during installation.
  2.

To install:
  1. Attach the lever connector and wiring to the length of wire in the steering column, then carefully pull the harness through the column and into position.
  2.
  3. Insert the multi-function lever to the turn signal.
  4.
  5. Remove the length of wire from the harness connector, then reposition and secure the protector cover.
  6.
  7. Engage the lever wiring harness connector.
  8.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and check for proper lever operation.
