To prevent damage to your vehicle an assistant should be used when attempting to remove or install the hood.

  1. Raise and support the hood, then place protective covers on the fenders.
  3. If equipped, disengage the electrical wiring connector from the underhood light.
  5. Using a scribing tool or permanent marker, matchmark the area around the hinges to make the installation easier.
  7. Support the hood and remove the hinge-to-hood bolts.
  9. Remove the hood from the truck.
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the hood mounting securely, but do not exceed 11 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  13. If necessary, adjust the hinges or the bump stops in order to achieve proper hood alignment.

Align the hood so that the gaps between all of the components are equal; it must be flush with the fender and the cowl vent grille. Center the hood in the opening between the fenders, the cowl and the radiator grille. If it is difficult to center the hood or if the hood appears to be out of square, the front end sheet metal may need to be adjusted.

Most of the hood adjustment is achieved through the hinge-bolts, though on some vehicles adjustment may also be obtained through repositioning the striker and/or through the used of bump stops.
