A damaged mirror glass face may be replaced by placing a large piece or multiple strips of tape over the glass then breaking the mirror face. Adhesive back mirror faces should be available for most applications.
Removal of outside mirrors is easily accomplished on most vehicles covered in this manual by removing the attaching screws from the anchoring plate and removing the mirror. On some late model vehicles the bolts (studs in this case) are not accessible from the outside and the door trim panel and water deflector must be removed in order to access the retaining nuts. Once the mirror housing is free it may be removed from the door, but make sure there is no power window option or the wiring harness must first be disengaged.
The water deflector is secured by a strip of adhesive between the deflector and door, as well as waterproof sealing tape. Upon installation, make sure a good seal is achieved to keep water from entering into the body. If necessary, use strip caulking as a sealant between the deflector and door.
