Fluid Pan

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Place a drain pan, or suitable container under the transaxle.
  4.

  1. Inspect the transaxle fluid pan for interfering components, then disconnect and reposition components as necessary for access. If equipped, remove the transaxle fluid pan guard.
  2.  
  3. Remove the transaxle fluid pan retaining bolts.
  4.  
  5. Carefully separate the fluid pan from the transaxle. If the pan is difficult to remove, tap the pan with a soft hammer to aid separation.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Clean the transaxle fluid pan surface and matching surface on the transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Install a new transaxle fluid pan gasket.
  4.  
  5. Be sure the fluid pan magnet is in the bottom of the fluid pan. Install the transaxle fluid pan and tighten the retaining bolts to 5 ft. lbs. (7 Nm) on the KF100 and KF400 transaxles, and 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm) on the JF403E transaxle.
  6.  
  7. Replace and connect all components moved to gain access to the fluid pan.
  8.  
  9. Safely lower the vehicle and connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Fill the transaxle with Dexron®II or equivalent transmission fluid.
  12.  

FILTER SERVICE



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the transaxle fluid pan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the filter retaining bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the filter from the transaxle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install a new filter to the transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Clean the transaxle fluid pan surface and matching surface on the transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Install a new transaxle fluid pan gasket.
  6.  
  7. Be sure the fluid pan magnet is in the bottom of the fluid pan. Install the transaxle fluid pan and tighten the retaining bolts to 5 ft. lbs. (7 Nm) on the KF100 and KF400 transaxles, and 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm) on the JF403E transaxle.
  8.  
  9. Replace and connect all components moved to gain access to the fluid pan.
  10.  
  11. Safely lower the vehicle and connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Refill the transaxle assembly to the proper level using Dexron®II transmission fluid.
