Neutral Safety Switch

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Spectrum
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector for the switch at the left fender.
  4.  
  5. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the switch retaining bolts and remove the switch.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Add transaxle fluid as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Check and make sure the engine starts in only the P and N detents.
  12.  

Storm
WITH 4-SPEED TRANSAXLE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intake air duct and breather tube from the air cleaner assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the shift control cable from the selector cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the neutral safety switch attaching screws and disconnect electrical connectors.
  8.  
  9. Remove the neutral safety switch.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Adjust the neutral safety switch after installation.
  12.  
  13. Check and make sure the engine starts in only the P and N detents.
  14.  

WITH 3-SPEED TRANSAXLE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector at the switch.
  4.  
  5. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the switch retaining bolts and remove the switch.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Align the groove and neutral basic line. Hold the switch in position and tighten the bolts to 48 inch lbs.
  10.  
  11. Check and make sure the engine starts in only the P and N detents.
  12.  

ADJUSTMENT



  1. Remove the intake air duct and air breather tube from the air cleaner assembly, as required.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the neutral safety switch attaching screws.
  4.  
  5. Place selector lever in the N position.
  6.  
  7. Install a pin into the adjustment holes in both the neutral safety switch and the switch lever.
  8.  
  9. Torque the retaining screws to 26 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the air breather tube and intake air duct onto the air cleaner assembly.
  12.
