Lower Control Arms

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Storm
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar from the control arm.
  6.  
  7. Separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front bushing-to-body attaching bolt, then the rear bushing-to-crossmember attaching bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the control arm from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the control arm onto the vehicle and secure in place. Torque the rear bushing-to-crossmember bolt to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm); front bushing-to-body attaching bolt to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).

  3. Install the ball joint to the control arm. Tighten the ball stud-to-knuckle pinch bolt to 46 ft. lbs. (62 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer bar to the control arm.
  6.  
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  

Spectrum
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the control arm-to-tension arm attaching nuts and bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut and bolt attaching the control arm to the body, then the control arm from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Reverse procedure to install.
  10.  

Raise the control arm to a distance of 15 inches from the top of the wheel well to the center of the hub. Retorque the control arm-to-body bolts to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) and the control arm-to-tension rod bolts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm). This procedure aligns the bushing arm to the body.
