Instrument Panel and Pad

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Spectrum

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the horn pad.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel nut and the steering wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering cowl.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the combination switch and the starter switch.
  10.  
  11. Remove the steering column to lower dash and to pedal bracket mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the steering universal joint 2nd attaching bolt. Remove the steering column assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the glove box.
  16.  
  17. Remove the radio bracket and disconnect the connector from the radio and the antenna cable.
  18.  
  19. Remove the ash tray.
  20.  
  21. Remove the heater/air conditioner control lever knob.
  22.  
  23. Remove the heater control panel and attaching screws.
  24.  
  25. Remove the instrument panel hood covering screws and pull the hood out away from the dash.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the windshield wiper switch and lighting switch connectors.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the speedometer cable. Remove the gauge assembly attaching screws and pull out the gauge assembly.
  30.  
  31. Remove the speedometer cable holder.
  32.  
  33. Remove the fuse block attaching screws.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the instrument panel to chassis electrical connector.
  36.  
  37. Disconnect the heater/air conditioner control connector and remove the cable.
  38.  
  39. Remove the instrument panel attaching screw covers and remove the instrument panel attaching screws.
  40.  
  41. Remove the instrument panel to the heater air duct.
  42.  
  43. Remove the instrument panel assembly.
  44.  

To install:
  1. Install the instrument panel assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the instrument panel to heater air duct.
  4.  
  5. Install the instrument panel attaching screws and covers.
  6.  
  7. Connect the heater/air conditioner control connector and the cable.
  8.  
  9. Connect the instrument panel to chassis electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Install the fuse block attaching screws.
  12.  
  13. Install the speedometer cable holder.
  14.  
  15. Connect the speedometer cable. Install the gauge assembly and the gauge assembly attaching screws.
  16.  
  17. Connect the windshield wiper switch and lighting switch connectors.
  18.  
  19. Install the hood to the dashboard and install the instrument panel hood covering screws.
  20.  
  21. Install the heater control panel and attaching screws.
  22.  
  23. Install the heater/air conditioner control lever knob.
  24.  
  25. Install the ash tray.
  26.  
  27. Install the radio bracket and connect the connector to the radio and the antenna cable.
  28.  
  29. Install the glove box.
  30.  
  31. Install the steering column assembly. Install the steering universal joint 2nd attaching bolt.
  32.  
  33. Install the steering column to lower dash and to pedal bracket mounting bolts.
  34.  
  35. Connect the electrical connectors to the combination switch and the starter switch.
  36.  
  37. Install the steering cowl.
  38.  
  39. Install the steering wheel and the steering wheel nut.
  40.  
  41. Install the horn pad.
  42.  
  43. Connect the negative battery cable.
  44.

Storm

See Figure 5

  1. If the vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, disable the system as described in Chassis Electrical .
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the glove box securing pins and remove the glove box assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front console bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 screws from the top of the instrument cluster cover.
  10.  
  11. From under the instrument cluster and remove the 4 screws securing the instrument cluster cover.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the lighting and windshield wiper/washer switches and remove the instrument cluster cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 4 screws securing the instrument cluster and pull the instrument cluster out.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the speedometer cable from the back of the instrument cluster and remove the cluster from the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 3 defroster grille plastic retainer covers.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 3 bolts and 2 screws that secure the defroster grille and remove the grille.
  22.  
  23. Remove the 2 screws, 4 bolts and 1 nut that secure the instrument panel assembly to the vehicle.
  24.  
  25. Remove the clips that secure the instrument panel wiring harness.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the heater and A/C control cables and electrical connectors.
  28.  
  29. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  30.  

To install:
  1. Install the instrument panel to the vehicle. Align the instrument panel.
  2.  
  3. Connect the heater and A/C control cables and electrical connectors.
  4.  
  5. Install the clips that secure the instrument panel wiring harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the 2 screws, 4 bolts and 1 nut that secure the instrument panel assembly to the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Install the 3 bolts and 2 screws that secure the defroster grille.
  10.  
  11. Install the 3 defroster grille plastic retainer covers.
  12.  
  13. Connect the electrical connectors and the speedometer cable to the instrument cluster and install the mounting screws.
  14.  
  15. Connect the lighting and windshield wiper/washer switches to the cluster cover.
  16.  
  17. Install the cluster cover and install the mounting screws.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.
