Boot and CV-Joint

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Storm
OUTER ASSEMBLY
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle and remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the halfshaft.
  4.  
  5. Place halfshaft into a suitable vise.
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable prybar, remove the circlip.
  8.  
  9. Remove the case housing from the shaft.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 6 balls from the ball guide, then move ball guide towards center of shaft.
  12.  
  13. Remove the snapring from the shaft, then the ball guide and ball retainer from the shaft.
  14.  
  15. Remove boot from shaft. Reverse procedure to install. Pack new boot with suitable grease.
  16.  

INNER ASSEMBLY
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove halfshaft from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Place halfshaft into a suitable vise and remove the large boot clamp.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tri-pot housing from the drive halfshaft.
  8.  
  9. Using a suitable brass drift and hammer, remove the spider assembly from the halfshaft.
  10.  
  11. Remove the small boot clamp, then the boot from the shaft. Note the alignment marks on the spider assembly and the halfshaft and on the drive halfshaft and the tri-pot housing. If no marks are present, make alignment marks for easy installation.
  12.  
  13. Reverse procedure to install. Pack new boot with a suitable grease.
  14.  

Spectrum
INNER ASSEMBLY
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely, the remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the outer boot assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the boot retaining clamps and the spacer ring.
  8.  
  9. Slide the axle and the spider bearing assembly out of the tri-pot housing. Install the spider retainer onto the spider bearing assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the spider assembly and the boot from the axle.
  12.  
  13. To install, pack the new boot with grease and reverse the removal procedures.
  14.  

OUTER ASSEMBLY
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely, then remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake caliper and support on a wire, then remove the rotor.
  6.  
  7. Slide the outer CV-joint assembly off the halfshaft.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bearing retaining ring, the boot retainer, the clamp and the outer boot.
  10.  
  11. To install, pack the new boot with grease and reverse the removal procedures.
  12.  

CV-JOINT INSPECTION



All Models

To inspect the inner joint, disassemble and inspect all components for pitting, damage or excess wear. If excess wear or damaged components are found, replacement of the assembly is recommended.

The outer CV joint cannot be disassembled. The outer CV joint should turn smoothly at angles of 40 degrees or less.
