Manual transaxle equipped cars may be started by pushing, in the event of a dead battery. But push starting IS NOT RECOMMENDED because of possible severe damage to the catalytic converter. If you must push start, ensure that the push car bumper doesn't override the bumper of your car. If possible, position a thick fabric such as a heavy winter jacket between the car bumpers to help prevent damage to your vehicle's bumper cover. Depress the clutch pedal. Select Second or Third gear. Switch the ignition ON. When the car reaches a speed of approximately 10 mph, release the clutch to start the engine.
If towing is required, the vehicle should be flat bedded or towed with the front wheels off of the ground on a wheel lift to prevent damage to the transaxle. DO NOT ALLOW your vehicle to be towed by a sling type tow truck, if it is at all avoidable. If it is necessary to tow the vehicle from the rear, a wheel dolly should be placed under the front tires.
