Diagnosis & Testing

Any diagnosis of the Power Mirror system should begin with the use of scan tool. For information on the use of the scan tool, refer to the appropriate Diagnostic Service information.

NOTE
For complete circuit diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring information.

  1. Check the fuses in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and the junction block. If OK, go to Step 2. If not OK, repair the shorted circuit or component as required and replace the faulty fuse(s).
  2.
  3. Check for battery voltage at the fuse in the junction block. If OK, go to Step 3. If not OK, repair the open circuit to the PDC as required.
  4.
  5. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the driver side power window switch and bezel assembly and unplug the wire harness connector from the power mirror switch. Connect the battery negative cable. Check for battery voltage at the fused B(+) circuit cavity in the door wire harness half of the power mirror switch wire harness connector. If OK, go to Step 4. If not OK, repair the open circuit to the junction block as required.
  6.
  7. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Check for continuity between the ground circuit cavity in the door wire harness half of the power mirror switch wire harness connector and a good ground. There should be continuity. If not OK, repair open in the ground circuit.

Removal & Installation
Motor
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.
  5. Raise the front window to the full up position and remove the door panel to gain access to the latch assembly:
    1. Remove the three screws that secure the front door trim panel to the door.
    2.
    3. Carefully pull the front door trim panel far away enough from the door using a trim stick C-4829 or equivalent, to disengage the seven plastic door trim panel retention clips (3) from the door and discard the clips.
    4.
    5. Lift the rear of the panel upward slightly to disengage the interior door latch lock link and knob from the rear of the door panel and the inner belt seal.
    6.
    7. Lower trim panel and separate the trim panel mirror flag from the clip. Discard the mirror flag clip.
    8.
    9. Position the front door trim panel far enough away to access the door wire harness connectors and the interior door handle actuator rod.
    10.
    11. Disconnect the interior door handle actuator rod from the interior door handle.
    12.
    13. Disconnect the wire harness connectors from the power door switch assembly, then remove the door panel.
    14.

  6.
  7. Open door and remove the three retaining screws.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the wire connector and remove mirror assembly from the vehicle.
  10.
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the retaining screws to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
