Power Window System



Diagnosis & Testing

Any diagnosis of the Power Windows system should begin with the use of scan tool. For information on the use of the scan tool, refer to the appropriate Diagnostic Service information.

  1. Turn the ignition on.
  2.  
  3. With the scan tool, record and erase DTC's.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds then turn the ignition on.
  6.  
  7. Try to operate the window several times.
  8.  
  9. With the scan tool, read active DTC's.
  10.  
  11. On the scan tool, refer to the symptom list for problems related to the power window DTC's.
  12.  

Removal & Installation
Switch
Front Door
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Using a trim stick, start at the rear of the switch and pry up to remove from door trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect electrical harness connectors from switch.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  10.  

Rear Door
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door trim panel to gain access to the latch.
    1. Remove the two screws that secure the rear door trim panel to the door.
    2.  
    3. Carefully pull the rear door trim panel far away enough from the door to disengage the six plastic door trim panel retention clips from the door.
    4.  
    5. Lift the rear of the panel upward slightly to disengage the interior door latch lock link and knob from the rear of the door panel.
    6.  
    7. Position the rear door trim panel far enough away to access the door panel wire harness connector and the interior door handle actuator rod.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the interior door handle actuator rod from the interior door handle.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the power door switch assembly.
    12.

  7. Remove switch from door trim panel.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  10.  

Window Motor & Regulator
Front
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise the front window to the full up position and remove the door panel to gain access to the latch assembly:
    1. Remove the three screws that secure the front door trim panel to the door.
    2.  
    3. Carefully pull the front door trim panel far away enough from the door using a trim stick C-4829 or equivalent, to disengage the seven plastic door trim panel retention clips (3) from the door and discard the clips.
    4.  
    5. Lift the rear of the panel upward slightly to disengage the interior door latch lock link and knob from the rear of the door panel and the inner belt seal.
    6.  
    7. Lower trim panel and separate the trim panel mirror flag from the clip. Discard the mirror flag clip.
    8.  
    9. Position the front door trim panel far enough away to access the door wire harness connectors and the interior door handle actuator rod.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the interior door handle actuator rod from the interior door handle.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the wire harness connectors from the power door switch assembly, then remove the door panel.
    14.

  7. Carefully remove the watershield as it will be reused.

  9. Temporarily install the window switch and position the glass fully up to gain access to the glass clamp screws.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the bolt in each of the window regulator glass clamps just far enough to release the door glass from the clamps. Do not completely remove.
  12.  
  13. Tape the glass securely into place.
  14.  
  15. Remove the mid-conduit clip and door harness clip prior to regulator removal.
  16.  
  17. Remove the bolts that secure the window regulator rails to the inside of the door.
  18.  
  19. Lower the regulator rails within the door far enough to access and disconnect the wire harness connector from the regulator motor through the large access hole in the center of the door and remove the regulator.
  20.  
  21. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the regulator bolts to 75 inch lbs. (8.5 Nm) and the window clamps to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

Rear
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.

  5. Remove the door trim panel to gain access to the latch.
    1. Remove the two screws that secure the rear door trim panel to the door.
    2.  
    3. Carefully pull the rear door trim panel far away enough from the door to disengage the six plastic door trim panel retention clips from the door.

    5. Lift the rear of the panel upward slightly to disengage the interior door latch lock link and knob from the rear of the door panel.
    6.  
    7. Position the rear door trim panel far enough away to access the door panel wire harness connector and the interior door handle actuator rod.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the interior door handle actuator rod from the interior door handle.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the power door switch assembly.
    12.

  7. Carefully remove the watershield as it will be reused.
  8.  
  9. Temporarily install the window switch and position the glass fully up to gain access to the glass clamp screws.
  10.  
  11. Tape the glass securely into place.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the bolt in each of the window regulator glass clamps just far enough to release the door glass from the clamps. Do not completely remove.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts that secure the window regulator rail to the inside of the door.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  18.  
  19. Lower the regulator and remove the regulator from the door.
  20.  
  21. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the regulator bolts to 75 inch lbs. (8.5 Nm) and the window clamps to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
