CAUTION
To protect eyes from battery acid, a suitable pair of industrial grade safety glasses should be worn when removing or servicing a battery.


CAUTION
To protect the hands from battery acid, a suitable pair of industrial grade heavy duty rubber gloves should be worn when removing or servicing a battery.


CAUTION
Remove metallic jewelry to avoid injury by accidental arcing of the battery current.


NOTE
Note the location of the positive and negative cables prior to service of the battery or related components.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable (3).
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the battery positive cable (1).
  6.  
  7. Loosen the bolt (2) and the retainer (8) that hold the battery down to the tray (7).
  8.  
  9. Lift the battery (4) out of the battery tray and remove it from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the thermal guard from the battery, if equipped.

To install:


NOTE
When replacing the battery, the thermal guard, if equipped, MUST be transferred to the new battery.

  1. Install the battery (4) into the vehicle making sure that the thermal guard, if equipped, is present and the battery is properly positioned on the battery tray (7).
  2.  
  3. Install the battery hold down retainer (8) and the bolt (2) making sure that it is properly positioned on the battery. Tighten the hold down bolt to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the battery positive cable (1). Tighten the cable clamp nut to 45 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the battery negative cable (3). Tighten the cable clamp nut to 45 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
