Removal & Installation



3.3L & 3.8L Engines

Specific to:

Chrysler Town & Country 2008-2009

Dodge Grand Caravan 2008-2009

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable at the battery.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 bolts from the power steering reservoir to the intake manifold.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the lower nut for the power steering reservoir from the stud on the ignition coil bracket.
  8.  
  9. Reposition the power steering reservoir.
  10.  
  11. Remove the ignition cables from the ignition coil.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 2 nuts from the ignition coil studs.
  16.  
  17. Remove the ignition coil from the engine.

To install:

  1. Install the coil over the studs on the bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the 2 nuts to the ignition coil studs and tighten the nuts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the ignition coil.
  6.  
  7. Install the ignition cables to the ignition coil.
  8.  
  9. Reposition the power steering reservoir. Slide bracket over the mounting stud.
  10.  
  11. Install the 2 bolts to the power steering reservoir and to the intake manifold.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the lower nut to the stud on the ignition coil bracket.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten the nut to 45 inch lbs. (5 Nm).

4.0L Engine

Specific to:

Chrysler Town & Country 2008-2009

Dodge Grand Caravan 2008-2009

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable at the battery.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold, removal & installation.
    NOTE
    Prior to removing the ignition coil, spray compressed air around the coil top to make sure no dirt drops into the spark plug tube.

  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the ignition coils (3).
  8.  
  9. Remove the mounting bolt (2).
  10.  
  11. Remove the ignition coil assembly (3) by turning the assembly 1 / 2 turn and pulling straight up in a steady motion.

To install:

  1. Install the ignition coil (3) and the bolt (2). Tighten the bolt to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the ignition coil.
  4.  
  5. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold, removal & installation.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten the nut to 45 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  8.  

Testing



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Use an ohmmeter to check the ignition coil resistance.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the coil from the engine.
  8.  
  9. The primary winding resistance (across the low tension terminals) should be according the following resistance table.
  10.  
  11. The secondary winding resistance (across the spark plug lead and one of the low tension terminals) should be according the following resistance table.
  12.  
  13. Replace any coil not within specification.
